A long overdue post about Florianopolis

As the title says, this post is very much long overdue, but I still wanted to tell you all a bit about my first trip out of São Paulo state! At the beginning of July we ventured out to Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, which is two states south of São Paulo, so about an hour flight away. Floripa, as the locals call it, is actually a city built on its own island, with each of its neighbourhoods feeling kind of like its own little town. We saw beautiful old buildings downtown lining brick and cobblestone streets, unbelievable beaches along every coast, and some other great little towns off the island too. Some of the highlights: a schooner ride to see different forts and historical sights around the island; visiting Beto Carrero World, the biggest amusement park in Latin America, in a little town called Penha; visiting Blumenau, another little town a bit off the beaten track, but full of charm and interesting things, since it still looks as German as the people who settled it; and going to a sea turtle sanctuary that we discovered by accident (I love sea turtles!). So with that, I’ll leave you to look at photos, because they can show you how great all of Santa Catarina is much quicker than I can.
